Speciality Coffees
Roasting coffee is not simply the scientific process of heating the coffee bean until it is brown, it is an art!
Each coffee growing region produces unique characteristics in its beans. Like wine, differences in the soil, altitude, rainfall amounts and the types of crops grown in proximity to the coffee all affect the flavour of the bean. To roast each type of coffee bean to its fullest potential takes dedication and a love of coffee. we love our coffee and take great pride in roasting each bean to perfection.
Our coffees contain only premium Arabica beans and are roasted in a small batch traditional artisan roaster. We do not believe in having large amounts of coffee roasted and stored for long periods, as we want our coffees to be as fresh as possible. While this sometimes means that larger orders may take a bit longer, you can always be assured that you are getting the freshest coffee possible!
Indian Monsooned Malabar
(Full-City Roast) 1lb (16oz.) $14.99 1/2lb (8oz.) $ 7.99
Indian Monsooned Malabar is a unique coffee grown in the Malabar region of India. Like great wines, great coffees are affected by what is grown in proximity to them. The coffee plants absorb flavour from the soil around them, making each coffee unique to its own region. The Indian Monsooned Malabar coffees are often grown with fruits and spices, giving this fantastic coffee a slightly fruity and subtle, spicy undertone.
Indian Monsooned Malabar also gets it great taste from the way that it is processeedd. After it has been picked and dried, the beans are taken to an open-sided warehouse, where they are placed in wooden trays and left exposed to the annual monsoon rains. This is done in an effort to re-create the changes occurred to the beans when they were shipped to the New World in wooden hulled boats leaving them exposed to the damp conditions for months on the long journey. Exposure to the monsoon rains, changes the coffee beans from their greenish color to a warm yellowish color. The rains also cause the beans to absorb the flavour from the wood, adding yet another character dimension to this coffee. The result is a wonderfully unique coffee that is smooth and full-bodied, with a low acidity and a subtle, spicy undertone. This hard to find coffee is one of our favorites and we are sure that you will love it as much as we do!
